Gemini Twins from Night Owl Quilting

Tammy made this fun pair of quilts for newborn twins in her family.  The pattern is Gemini from Villa Rosa Designs and it couldn't be more fitting.

Both quilts received the Gingersnap pantograph for the quilting design. The first quilt with the white background had a lovely purple Fireside backing and we used a light lavender thread for the quilting.

We chose a dark teal thread for the quilting on the black background.  It doesn't disappear completely, but also doesn't distract from the graphic design.  These quilts also when home bound and ready to gift thanks to ...

A Trio of Jelly Roll Quilts from Night Owl Quilting

Roberta made this trio of Jelly Roll Race quilts for her grandchildren.  I think she did a great job of making them equal but unique.

The first batik version with a purple Fireside backing was given the Fascination pantograph.

The second quilt featuring the Ruby Star Society Hole Punch Dots collection received the Flirtatious pantograph.  The fabric makes me think of confetti and the pantograph streamers so let the party begin!

And last but not least this batik version received the Gingersnap pantograph which seems to be the most popular in my collection.

Nobody Puts Baby in the Corner from Night Owl Quilting

Reneta made this cozy quilt using a selection of Mammoth Flannels.  The pattern is from Fabriculous and is called "Don't Put Baby in the Corner."

Reneta decided on the perennial favorite - Gingersnap for the pantograph.   I sometimes worry that this pantograph might be overdone in my studio, but everyone seems to like it and it looks great on a wide variety of quilts.

Memory Quilts and More from Night Owl Quilting

Jukipa brough 4 quilts for special little people in her life.   The first two are memory quilts that she was asked make for two little boys from pajamas and jeans of her daughter.

This first of the two memory quilts received the Quirky pantograph that is shown above and the second received the Gingersnap pantograph.

Jukipa also made two identical quilts for her granddaughters.  I love the cute llama print.  We decided to use similar but different hear pantographs - Ginger Heart on the first and Heartstrings on the second.

Scrappy Cats from Night Owl Quilting

Reneta found an image of this single block on Pinterest and worked out her plan to make this wonderful quilt using her favorite scrap busting 2" squares.

Reneta suggested the Gingersnap pantograph as she thought the shapes reminded her of balls of yarn.  Gingersnap seems to look great on so many quilts and this is no exception.

I used a soft purple thread to add a little interest to the quilting and play on the yarn theme.

Are you inspired to make a scrappy quilt?  This was on my machine when another client came by to drop off her quilts ...

Ukrainian Sunflower from Night Owl Quilting

Mary brought two lovely quilts that she made with the intention of donating away through her local quilt guild.  First up is this beautiful sunflower quilt.  The pattern is a free download from Sugar Free Quilts called "Ukrainian Sunflower."

Mary knew that she wanted a design with some hearts on it and quickly decided on the Pieces of My Heart pantograph.  We used a murky green thread that blended well across the quilt.  The Cuddletex backing fabric that she brought quilted up very nicely.  This was the first time I quilted the exact product to my knowledge.  It is very ...

Little Owl & More from Night Owl Quilting

I have been so busy quilting that I haven't kept up with sharing photos.  Time to change that and share 3 lovely little quilts today.  First up is a joint baby gift made by Shalane with support from Reneta and Amy.  The pattern is called Little Owl by Bound Co.

The group quickly agreed on the Gingersnap pantograph to finish off this darling project.

Next up is a little quilt Reneta put together with the leftover from her Patchwork Swoon Quilt.  Reneta brought the leftover blocks and fabrics to our retreat and popped them up on the design wall ...

Parasols from Night Owl Quilting

This lovely quilt was made by Barb.  It is a fun variation of a Dresden Plate quilt, with the spokes being totally pieced instead of appliqued to the background.  The pattern is called Parasols by Geta's Quilt Studio.

Barb chose the Gingersnap pantograph and a dusty pink thread for the quilting.  I love the paisley backing fabric that she found that has all of the colors from the front of the quilt.

I hope the weather outside starts feeling as springy as this quilt soon!

Wheel of Mystery from Night Owl Quilting

Leslie brought this lovely Wheel of Mystery quilt top for finishing.  The top was made by her dear friend Anne who passed away.  Anne's friends are working diligently to finish as many of her projects as possible and I have been lucky enough to see many of them.  Anne was a prolific quilter and teacher and everything she produced was impeccably made.

Leslie is planning to donate this quilt so we looked for a pretty design that would compliment the top, but keep the cost reasonable.  The Gingersnap pantograph seemed to be a perfect fit.

The pantograph compliments the ...

3 Batik Beauties from Night Owl Quilting

Batik quilts don't seem to come into my studio very often these days, so as a Batik lover deep at heart I was thrilled when Wendy brought these three batik beauties by.  First up is the fun Jelly Roll Race quilt in a beautiful color palette.

When chose the Gingersnap pantograph and we used a turquoise thread on the top and on the back.  I love how the quilting shows up on the fireside backing.

Next up is the gorgeous "Emerald Forest" quilt that comes from the book "Inspired by Bali"  in a palette of  brown batiks with more ...

My Christmas Ornament Quilt from Night Owl Quilting

I am excited to share a quilt that belongs to me!  I participated in a "Queen Bee" block swap with some friends this year.  There were 9 in our group.  Everyone was assigned a month to be "Queen."  My month was February.  Ahead of your month you select a block pattern and send it to the other participants and they make 2 blocks with the colors or other details you specified.  When it is your month,  you wait for the happy mail to start arriving!

I selected this 12" Ornament block from Heather at The Sewing Loft blog, and sent ...

Ultimate Beginner Quilt x 2! from Night Owl Quilting

I recently had the opportunity to help two sisters finish quilts that they made "together" while apart during Covid restrictions.  They followed the Ultimate Beginner Quilt Sew Along by the Fat Quarter Shop.  It includes free block patterns along with You Tube videos to guide you.  Above is Crystal's quilt.  Below is Marja-liisa's.

I have to say that at first I didn't realize that they were made from the same pattern as the fabric selections and layout differences really make them look different.

This is only Crystal's second quilt and she selected the gingersnap pantograph.

Marja-lissa ...

Christine made this fun scrap buster quilt from the Traffic Jam pattern.

Christine selected the Gingersnap pantograph and I think the result is a fun and cheerful quilt.

Pretty in Purple from Night Owl Quilting

This pretty purple quilt was made by Heather.  She adapted a table runner pattern called "Pomegranate Rose" from the book "The Versatile Nine Patch" into a full quilt.

There is a phenomenal amount of piecing in each block!   I don't think I would have made it past 3 blocks, let alone 28!

Heather chose the Gingersnap pantograph and I used a pretty purple So Fine thread.  I love the fun backing Heather used as this quilt is for a very young girl.

Ginger Snap from Night Owl Quilting

When Karen dropped this lovely quilt off on my porch,  I didn't know what was inside the bag.  In Manitoba, we are currently under "Code Red" Covid restrictions so I can't have anyone besides household members inside my house.  When I unfolded the quilt top and saw the one unique block I wondered if there was a story or something that prompted that design choice?

Karen made this quilt in the colors of the last family rabbit Mister Collins who hopped on to heaven in June.  The corner square was included to denote his love of gingersnaps and ...

Animal Hugs Quarter Section from Night Owl Quilting

Reneta made this absolutely adorable baby quilt using the Quarter Sections pattern by Highway 10 Designs. Did you know that all you need is 5 fat quarters and 3/4 yard of border fabric to make this top that measures a generous 39" x 45"?!?

Reneta chose the Gingersnap pantograph to complete the look.

The fabric line that Reneta used is Animal Hugs by 3Wishes Fabrics.  The prints are so cute!

The next time you are in need of a fast and fun baby quilt think of Quarter Sections.

It's Good to Be Square from Night Owl Quilting

This is Val's rich batik "It's Good to Be Square" quilt.  Pattern is by A Quilter's Dream.

Val selected the Gingersnap pantograph and Quilter's Dream puff batting.

The backing piece that Val had on had was slightly bigger than the quilt top, but not the 8" larger that I require to load onto my longarm.  To solve this issue, Val added some scrap fabric leader and ender to the backing to give me the length I needed.  This fabric did not end up on the back of the quilt but allowed Val to use that "almost ...

Karen's Memory Quilts from Night Owl Quilting

I recently had the privilege of quilting three very special quilts for Karen. Karen made three unique memory quilts for her sisters out of their father's shirts.

The first one based on the Crossroads quilt block, got the London Fog pantograph.

The second one got the Gingersnap pantograph.

The third one, based on the "Chandelier 2 " pattern got the Plush pantograph.

When Karen came to pick up the quilts she brought along the labels she had made, and I think they are awesome.  She used the shirt collars in the most creative way.  Each of her sisters selected a ...
